Change Change Change

I have so much to say this morning.
I feel like I might be a relic, a dinosaur... soon to be extinct. I rarely pat myself on the back, but...

I do okay, I am very lucky. My husband and I have decent jobs, a reasonable home, great family, wonderful son. We are able to pay our bills, feed our family and have a little extra for some fun things. I don't strive to make millions. I don't live my life to make money no matter what the cost. As far as the tax cut in the stimulus package, I'd rather them take mine and put it towards healthcare, education, infrastructure or give it to someone who needs it more than me.

My healthcare went up $100/mo this year. I AM concerned that at this rate, I will be unable to afford it. My yearly raise never amounts to anything because it mainly absorbs the hike in healthcare costs that I suffer. BUT I HAVE healthcare. Imagine families that don't have it.

It gets OLD hearing everyone panic about the debt. It seems so ridiculous. We've had debt before and turned it into a surplus. We can do that again. We can't when the economy is dire, and we have 2 wars going on. But, it's not the END OF THE WORLD.

I heard someone talk about how we are moving towards socialism. Like it's a dirty word. Are you happy with having police, firemen, and teachers? Hate to break it to you, but that's socialism. It's not all bad. I think we can find a free market world with a dash of socialism that can suit us all.

Now to my point about Change. I've heard how Obama "promised change"... "Where is the change we can believe in?". How can we expect things to change when everyone is so afraid and clinging onto the past. We have to be uncomfortable and allow things to BE changed. I know it's scary going into unchartered waters, but something needs to be done. We need to re-examine our entitlement programs and make them better, that requires change, we need to do something about healthcare but that will require things to change.... If our legislators keep up this standstill, there will be no way change can happen. The legislators need to feel uncomfortable too, go out on a limb against what we're used to and get the job done for the citizens of the US.

or else then we vote new people in.

I totally agree, it seems that we vote new in and then after the speeches are over it is the same old bs. politics as usual. I wish those in washington could see that it should not be about republican or democrat but about the people they represent. I am sure must people in their state would just want them to work it out and not play these games. No state is 100% republican or 100% democrat. This last eight years has just polarized the country to the extent that we can't see the forest through the trees.

You're starting to sound like my husband. He always votes for change, no matter what is going on. He voted for Ross Perot, in our state always votes Democrat, but did vote for Obama this time. He thinks he's a Libratarian. I think he's a Democrat, but hates how political everything has become and thinks that we need more than a 2-party system.

Yep, we all need to think outside the box and try new things. Nothing changes if we aren't willing to try.

And I hear ya about the rise in health insurance premiums. Mine went up 25% this year, and no matter what happens in our life, we HAVE to keep our insurance. So, I may someday end up without a home or job, but by golly I'll be paying those premiums. Thank you for raising the police, fire, and education issue being socialism. That's been my argument for so many years. I ask you, what's so wrong with the way Europe handles these issues? I know we all don't want to be just like them, but they've been around a lot longer than the US, and have had to get through their growing pains. We'll make it, too, if people will just realize we can't keep going on like this.

Everytime I come to your blog I fall in a love a little bit.
We are very lucky in our lives also. Luckily our healthcare didn't go up but my husband did take a 3% pay cut becaue of the recession. At least he has a job!
I agree with the socialism, we already have it in so many ways. I'm tired of all the labeling and name calling. Are we back in High School?
I want change, I embrace the change because that is what is needed to move on in this world, otherwise we'd all be visiting outhouses and have horses.I hope more people start to embrace it.
I live in a very Republican state and have heard how badly Obama is governing and how "ignornant people" voted him in. Fires me up that people can't accept that something different could actually be good.
I also agree that some things need to be changed. We as a country have changed it only makes sense. But to fight it so hard is only hurting themselves.
You have put into words the things I think. I love finding people who also want the change and are willing to work for it.

Man, this is one smart group o' women here! I don't see what the big to-do is over the centralized services we provide (aka "socialism")...and I'd be fine with a single-payer system. And boy, CM, I hear ya re: health insurance. It's a huge chunk outta the check each month, but whaddya do without it? You can't, esp. with the kiddo politicos in the house.
After what's happened in CA this year, I will be voting all incumbents, Dems or GOP, out of office. Does anyone know how to go about putting a initiative on the ballot? I think we should dock the CA Assembly and Senate's daily pay and per diem for every day they can't settle on a budget. (Their
per diem, for food and transportation, is $200 per day-I could feed my family of 4 for a lot longer than a day on that!)
Yes, Girls, something's gotta give. Smart comments, All!
