There is definately a problem when... you have to work so hard to find products that were made in your country. After the whole toy scare with China and lead paints, I went to a store and looked at where the toys were made and I was lucky to find 1 that was made here.
I saw a commercial on TV appealing to people to "Buy USA products". I wish it were that easy.
And now our biggest commodity... cars.... may go by the wayside.

American cars are crap! They knew back in the late 70's they had to change to compete with European and Japanese cars, did they, nope! They brought on this problem all by themselves, well they had some help from the stupid US consumers that bought big SUV's and gas guzzlers!
As far as American toys, are there some that are actually still made in this country, which one? Looking through my kids toy box I keep seeing European Countries on the "made in" label.
I have had good luck with Mazdas. But I have always liked driving smaller cars.

Yup used to drive one of those way back when. I know drive a nice small european car, great emissions and awesome on gas mileage (for an 8 cylinder I get 30 mpg). You do know that Mazda is not an American car company.
So who still makes toys here in America?
Oh yea.. I know it. I didn't say I had any loyalties to American Car Companies. In fact...I've had many cars, and maybe 1-2 were American cars.
I'm not really sure about the toys. I think there are some websites you can look them up on.. but they're not commonly found in the stores. I wish we could get back to producing some of our own things.
For years and years, we only had European cars, however, after our move back to the states, we finally bought American. I was hesitant and worried about reliability, however, we've had super good luck w/them(knock on wood).
Seriously, it only took one car accident (rear ended @45mph) and I wanted something a wee bit bigger than our old Jetta. We bought a Ford Escape, and it's been great, and now they have an Escape Hybrid.
Jen, i feel your agnst on finding safe toys for children that are us made. i am having to shop on a drastically reduced budget this year and a majority of the good toys are made in other countries. I have concern about lead, unsafe substances and just plain poor construction. Even some of the highly respected brands appear to be foreign made.
I've turned to making a few gifts this year (a real stretch for me!)
