Odds -n- Ends

Just some thoughts:

John Boehner - He's from Ohio and has a wicked tan. He really needs to lay off the tanning bed.

Kirstin who? - I'm in NY.... I'm not sure what to make of her.

Rush L - I think it's fun to watch him spin out of control. He is losing his power and will do anything, say anything to try to get it back.

I am really glad that someone put the smack down on these banks taking bailout money and buying "stuff". It is appalling about that CEO that remodeled his office. Looks like Citi isn't getting the jet after all.

And... I love these pictures.

Well Rush L sure did hit the nail on the head with this one...

"“When I think of reducing budget deficits, it would never occur to me to think about eliminating people ... If she wants fewer births, I have the way to do this, and it won't require any contraception. You simply put pictures of Nancy Pelosi ... put pictures of Pelosi in every cheap motel room in America today, that will keep birth rates down because that picture will keep a lot of things down."

Oh yes, that is a very mature way to make the case. So juvenile.

I love those pictures, too!

Oh Jen, come on don't you have a sense of humor?

Forgot to comment on this before, totally agree!

and here is some more good news...

And this week, ousted Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain said he would personally cough up the $1 million he spent on remodeling his office after his brokerage was rescued with billions in taxpayer cash.

Democratic leaders in the House have already dropped federal funding from the bill for new contraceptive services and ongoing programs to stop sexually transmitted diseases after Obama told them that it did not fit in with the job-creating objectives of the package.

Lets hope that Obama keeps on this track, especially when it comes to this, Stimulus Dollars for ACORN

Yes, I have a sense of humor, I just don't think making fun of someone's appearance is funny.

And I had heard that about the CEO paying the company back. I am sketchy about this bailout to begin with and then all these banks are taking advantage of it pisses me ... buying other banks, having parties, etc.

I agree, it's probably for the best. There's a better time and place for those things.

Love those pics as well.

I saw today that the Republicans are going to vote against the bill, nearly all of them. I find it fascinating that, after losing both the Senate and the House a few years ago, and now the Presidency, they still don't see that most Americans are tired of their policies and want something different than voting along party lines. I guess that explains why Rush and all the rest are looking so ridiculous right now.

While I agree that some stuff in the stimulus doesn't belong there, I feel like the leadership of the R party should be talking about how they are willing to work with the D's and find common ground and get something passed ASAP. We all prosper if Obama does well.

Cancer mommy --
I just want to say again how happy I am that your back and commenting.
You are absolutely right. These guys are never going to get it. People did not vote for McCain for a reason. This is like so childish... "I'm not going to vote, until I get what I want." Obama has tried to work with them. Once this bill gets to the Senate, I'm hoping they will refine it some. I'd like to see more spending on sustainable things like green energy jobs, etc....

It is an "economic stimulus" bill, whatever is in the bill should stimulate the economy, dont you think?

Unknown said...

if anybody is interested the whole 647 pages of the economic stimulus package can be read here...

Can someone please explain to me how STD prevention creates jobs? (page 147-148 of the bill). Is it along the lines of when Pelosi wanted to provide birth control under this economic stimulus plan?

Patrick,

The part of the bill that was going to fund uninsured women getting birth control and other healthcare was axed because Obama and the Democrats were trying to work with the Republicans and get bipartisan support. Now that that hasn't happened, I see no reason why there should be such an effort to change things.

As I said before, there were some things in the bill that belong in another bill, but I don't think anyone should be surprised that there was some pork. It's the Congress, for goodness sake. It's been that way forever. I find it fascinating that when Republicans were in control, they never once took out the pork in their bills. But when we want to help the poor with healthcare, that should be off limits?

I do hope Republicans start figuring out who they are, because they are starting off on the wrong foot. Their policies have been in place for years, and haven't worked. We now need to try something new. Voting no on this bill doesn't stimulate the economy either. And when you vote no and have no other solution, where is the country?

Cancermommy -

You bring up a good point that I've been trying to make and you put words on it. Not everyone that is without healthcare is poor. Companies are contributing less money towards healthcare and many people are forced to opt out of having it. They may be healthy otherwise and taking a huge risk. Therefore they don't get access to birth control. Just for the record, when I WAS on the patch/pill, with my insurance it still cost me $30/month! That's WITH insurance. That's $360/year that could have been spent elsewhere. Imagine the cost without insurance.

Unknown said...

Jen,

you should of headed over to the local PP, they give the stuff out fore free, well not really free since they receive tax payer funding

Cancer Mommy said...

When I was on birth control, I paid around $30/mo too. That's after insurance paid.

I'm treading on thin ice here, since healthcare is a passion of mine, and I take things personally about it. I would just like to comment that my insurance rates jumped this year over 25%. Since I have to stay in a group policy, or risk eventually being in a "group" of individual policy holders who all have major medical issues, therefore increasing my premium ten-fold, or just getting thrown off the insurance roles altogether, I feel we as a country NEED to do something about the healthcare system. I'm open to ideas, and I think there should be dialogue. But when all's said and done, there should be change. Something. I shouldn't have to worry about losing my medical coverage. This should be a right of every citizen, just like education and the protection of police and fire. Those are all "socialized" and everyone seems fine with that. Why not healthcare?

I don't know why patrick made that last comment. I don't remember complaining about my meds being too expensive for me. I think I was trying to discuss how silly it was that some of the Republican concerns were addressed by removing the help for those who need it, and then none of them voted for the bill anyway. I don't agree with removing that, but I agree with the idea of trying to find a compromise. Bipartisanship is not just about getting what you want. You have to give, too.

CM -

I couldn't agree with you more on that. I think Patrick was responding to me with his last one.

Aside from the "stimulus bill"... I can't understand why anyone would fight against healthcare for everyone if taxes weren't going to increaase. There is so much waste and fraud right now with Medicaid and Medicare that if they really spent the time into making it work for everyone, it wouldn't cost more at all.

My health insurance went up $100/mo this year. Management contributed more to the single and single +1 policies and left those of us with families hangin' out to dry. Felt like discrimination.

I love those pictures too! In fact, I have seen a TON of pictures of PRESIDENT Obama that I like.

I so enjoy your blog, it is nice to see some women putting their political views out there, I think we could use more women commenting on politics. I also commend you on how brave it is to put it out there. I have such a hard time writing about politics because I don't align with my family and I don't want them to feel offend should they stumble upon my blog, so I know how much guts it takes to put it all out there. Bravo!
