I just saw that on the news.

I'm hoping that this will spark a trend and a few more people will swtich sides as well.

Hey, he's not the first...there's been a governor, too, I believe...but hey, gotta love the call for revolt and protest. Ya don't here that from a moderate, Dem or GOP! Damn, though...who's next??? Sure was wishin' for that filibuster-proof majority...

Specter is a Democrat like I am a man. He's nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing. Unless we pick up a couple more seats in 2010, we're still playing with the same hand we were dealt in November. I really hoped that Chambliss would have gotten his ass handed to him, but we don't always get what we want, right? Now that Specter is a "Democrat" Obama will be under even more pressure to quickly pass legislation, and will be crucified in the media if he doesn't get it done with his "fillibuster proof majority." Specter said himself that he won't be entirely too helpful with the Democratic agenda. Boo!

It seems like this is just a protest change, not "meaningful, I believe" change. Just more politician shit.

Honestly, anymore I wish we could get rid of the party system and just listen to what each candidate truly believes. Well, if they would actually tell us what they really think.

Ah, a girl can dream.

That and two independents caucusing with dems and it's a smoothly paved highway to obama's legislation.

He is not a true believer, that's for sure. Very calculated, self-serving move. Hope the voters aren't fooled. He is so old and in ill health that he may not make it to the next election. Bet his constituents vote Dem.

And can someone PLEASE give Al Franken his seat NOW?

It would be awesome if we could truly have a multi party system that necessitated people working together instead of the two teams battling each other model. Or just make everyone a liberal. That's good too.

FF - hahah just make everyone Liberal.

While I think Arlen Specter is a Conservadem more than anything else... at least now he'll be able to vote on the liberal things that he does believe in without having to worry about his own ass next election. That alone will benefit us in getting things done. He is a big proponent of healthcare reform, and I personally think that there might have been some deal making about this to get it done.

And of course he's going to say that he's not a rubberstamp. Who would? They all have different constituencies to keep happy.. but I really think in the long run it will be helpful. Not perfect, but helpful...
