How can anyone defend??

Ken Saltzman's (he's running to be the RNC chairman) decision to send around a CD with a song called "Barack the Magic Negro" set to the music of Puff the magic dragon? That is a "joke" that is just not acceptable in this day and age.

Well, Mike Huckabee is one of the defenders:

Mike Huckabee defended Saltsman, his former campaign manager, on his blog.
"Chip should have been more careful in his selection of Christmas gifts, but no one who knows him would ever suggest that he in any way would purposely disparage other people," Huckabee wrote. "Chip knows how sensitive such issues are. It shouldn't be the main factor in the RNC race."

Okay, this is the epitomy of what is wrong with the Republican Party. They are so far out of touch with the American People, that they are possible going to make this Saltzman the head of the party because they want to rally behind him for releasing a CD that has an obviously racist song.

And, nobody can honestly say it's not racist. Using the term "Negro" is out of line. That is a derogatory word for an African American and everyone knows that. If the democratic party had done this, the Republican Party would be so up in arms. Oh, the hypocricy.

I could even maybe accept the excuse that one bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch (Lord knows we have Blagojevich)... but the Republican Party is actually defending this guy therefore saying it is acceptable.

I just realized....

That we get to watch Barack Obama give the State of the Union address this year.

I may actually be able to watch it.

Speaking of separation of church and state...

I've been working up this post in my mind for awhile and have decided to write it up. I feel like I must confess.....

I want to explain why the separation of church and state are so important to me. I am agnostic. I don't believe in one God per se. This doesn't mean that I am not spiritual or "religious". There are parts of all religions that I like and subscribe to those ideals. The Catholic religion is the one I have a hard time with. It just seems so hypocritical to me. But that is another post for another day.

I am not ashamed of how I feel. But, most people hear "agnostic" or "atheist" and think of the devil or that you are a bad person. I don't like to make that first impression on people. I have values and morals. I have good manners and my mother brought me up to have compassion for others and to do the right thing.

Talk about a group that gets left out like we are lepers. The GLBT group has nothing to complain about compared to us! Imagine the candidates running for office needing to prove how "church-going" they are. Imagine they always end a speech with "God Bless America" or else they are chastised. Just think how that comes across to my demographic group.

I should add that I have complete respect for anyone that believes in whatever you choose to believe in. I have never put someone down for believing in God, (whatever form that takes)... but I do have a problem if you impose those beliefs onto me. I have a problem when policies in this country that are supposed to be good for ALL Americans are made based on the Bible or any religious ideals, because then that doesn't represent everyone.

So honestly, all this talk about Rick Warren... Technically there shouldn't even be an Invocation or Benediction at the Inauguration, if there were true separation of church and state.

I'm sure my conservative readers aren't surprised. This would explain all of my "deviant" (read: pro-choice, pro gay marriage) views to them. I welcome a good debate about this... however it will not include the pro-choice or pro-life comments. I won't publish them. I'd like to have one post that doesn't boil down to that, since there is so much else to talk about.

Let's apply for some of the TARP $$.

http://www.treas.gov/press/releases/reports/applicationguidelines.pdf

Look at the application that the banks have to fill out to get some of the bailout money. I've filled out harder applications for jobs, mortgage, car loans, etc.

I think we should all fill one out and send it in!

John Mccain's take on the Economy

On Sept 15th, McCain said "the fundamentals of our economy are strong"

When everyone pounced on him, he backtracked to say that he meant the American Workers are strong.

Well, last week he came out against the Auto Bailout that had saved the jobs of millions of workers.

What do you really mean John?

Ooooh....

I got a biography on Michelle Obama and "Audacity of Hope" for Christmas!
What a great day. :D

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone has a great Christmas. My son is almost two and I think this Xmas will be so much more fun this year, since he's older now.

If you don't celebrate Christmas, I hope that you are having a great time enjoying whatever holidays you choose to celebrate!

Rick Warren Controversy + Gay marraige.

Okay... I admittedly don't know a whole lot about him. I know that he's an evangelical minester. I don't tend to agree with Evangelicals on anything. I know that he's raised money for HIV/Aids. I know that he was a supporter of Proposition 8, and doesn't take kindly to homosexuals.

I am one of the biggest supporter of gay/lesbian rights. I feel strongly that they should have marraige rights, and all else that the average white, straight person should have. So, Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin. That's fine... so don't allow church marraiges. But, they absolutely should be able to have a state marriage. Esp since there is supposed to separation of church and state.

Now, onto the fact that Obama has asked Rick Warren to do the invocation at Inauguration. I can totally understand why the G/L community would be upset. However, this is what is so good about Obama. He has always vowed to listen to other viewpoints. To disagree without being disagreeable. Obama hasn't sold out the gay/lesbian community... it's better to try to find the things that we can work ont together. He probably won't draft any sort of legislation re: gay/lesbian rights with this guy.... but certainly there are things that they can work on together...

Latinos

Okay, so I'm listening to the radio on my way to work and I hear the local news guy talking with a guest about how Obama has appointed a record number of Latinos in his cabinet... and then they followed it up with "..and they're all legal.".

How insulting! I mean honestly... If you have any latino blood... you automatically get characterized as legal or not legal? That's just ridiculous because a lot of Latino people were born here and have lived here their whole lives.

Where do people get off not showing people common courtesy and respect?

Caroline Kennedy....

Okay... I'm probably slightly more interested in this because it involves my state.
I think this is such an intriguing pick. I can't understand how people are saying she shouldn't be selected because she hasn't been in politics...

umm.. Hello, she's Caroline Kennedy. She lost her father, uncle to assassinations. Her whole family is political. How can you say she hasn't been in politics? So she hasn't held a political office, so what? The last I knew that wasn't part of the criteria to hold office in the US Senate.

So, maybe she hasn't spoken up.... and been out there for the public to see... that doesn't mean she hasn't done anything...

Personally, I think some of the Republicans in our state are making it a big deal, because they want to run for the office in 2010 and they know they couldn't compete with her ability to fundraise.

Hello....

I'm still here, just been real busy. :D

But, I will say.... I was reading the Sunday paper, and I like to check the gossipy questions in the front of the Parade section. I saw Bill O'Reilly's "Great Holiday Quiz".

I said to my husband, "Isn't it kind of hypocritical that Bill O'Reilly makes a "Holiday" Quiz when he is constantly harping on the fact that we are taking the Christmas out of Christmas?"
This is the man that gets all upset when someone says "Happy Holidays" or talks of a "Holiday Tree"?

Then... Keith Olbermann mentioned it on his show last night! I got a chuckle out of that.

Safe Toys

I was driving to work today and heard about this commission in NY that tested toys to find out if they were safe. I guess there were a disturbing amount of toxic toys... But they talked about a website to go to in order to find out about them.

www.healthytoys.org

It lists toys by Brand Name and then the individual toys and it will tell you what the toys contains and classifications of low, med, high.

What a great time of year for this... now we can at least try to check before Xmas presents are bought.

Made in the USA

There is definately a problem when... you have to work so hard to find products that were made in your country. After the whole toy scare with China and lead paints, I went to a store and looked at where the toys were made and I was lucky to find 1 that was made here.

I saw a commercial on TV appealing to people to "Buy USA products". I wish it were that easy.

And now our biggest commodity... cars.... may go by the wayside.

Bye Hillary!

I think she'll make a great Secretary of State....

.. but I thought she made a great US Senator for my state. I will miss her in that role, and being such a big advocate for Healthcare reform, it's a loss.
